A digression

Yesterday a friend came to visit and she taught me to spin with a spindle. And look here is proof.

I have made yarn! I like the challenge and the enjoyment of learning something new but I don't think I'm ready to go over to the dark side just yet. My pointy sticks are still my favourites.

And speaking of which, my socks and shawl are still progressing but another delightful distraction has appeared. I've been tempted by yet another lace KAL. This one is another of BadCatDesigns and is called the Snow Queen Pi Shawl. This one looks like it will offer quite a knitting challenge. Care to join me? Can you resist Annie?

How clever you are Amanda! I dont think I am ready for the dark side either, lol! I am going to try and knit a shawl this year too.

I've never tried it either - I just worry it would take too much time away from the pursuit of yarn into garment!

you sound like you picked it up quickly! I won't be joining the darkside either, despite having learned. I like to knit, rather than make, yarn.

I'm so excited. You are learning to spin. We spinners are going to lure you in yet. lol. You'll love it. Just think, you will be able to make your own yarn.

Your spinning looks great! Isn't spindle spinning fun! I have been spinning for a year and ready for a wheel - you will be hooked too

I sit on my hands, Amanda: no more shawls for the moment. My Panama is going slowly and I have to spin more silk for it, I'm afraid.
And I must knit a sweater: it's still very cold here and my sweaters haven't been found yet!
Spinning on a spindle is so much fun, especially when you're travelling. There's always something to do then! I do prefer my wheel, but sometimes, on holiday, I use a spindle.

I would be careful if I were you...spinning takes on a life of its own and pulls at you just as much as knitting does! Your spindle spun looks wonderful.

Snow Queen looks like it is going to be a lot of fun, can't wait to see charts!!

Isn't spindle spinning fun! Next step though is a full sized wheel you know and then you are really hooked!!
(And I like to knit better too, BUT it gets very calming and meditative and some days I'm better off spinning than knitting!)
